Saráh Blain Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Atheist Lobbyist to Engage Secular Voters Across Arizona

Phoenix, AZ. - August 29, 2012. Secular Coalition for Arizona’s Executive Director, Seráh Blain, will be touring the state this fall to engage secular voters in the political process and encourage the nontheistic community to make their voices heard at the polls this November. Blain is the country’s only professional lobbyist for a state-level nontheistic advocacy organization.

“According to the Pew Religious Landscape Survey, Arizona has something like 450,000 adults who identify as lacking a belief in God. Many of these nontheists participate in one or more of the 15 organizations represented by the Secular Coalition for Arizona,” says Blain, “but many others don’t know there’s an organized movement or that atheists in our state have a full-time advocate at the Capitol. I plan to introduce them to the Coalition, and learn more about what kinds of issues our constituents care about.”

The town hall-style meetings sponsored by the Secular Coalition for Arizona will include an update on the state of secularism in Arizona along with a question and answer period, which will provide secular Arizonans an opportunity to interact directly with their lobbyist.

“Most of our constituents are deeply concerned about preserving the wall of protection between church and state,” says Blain. “I am looking forward to hearing from secular Arizonans more about where they want us to go in the next legislative season, and how we can work together to stop religion from taking over government.”
